Celebrating the 17th annual Governors’ Challenge Blood Drive in Rotary District 5790, the Global Network for Blood Donation bestowed capes and awards.
D5790 brought 2,811 donations under the leadership of newly caped DG Hollis Lackey. Receiving the awards for their clubs were; Joel White from Wichita Falls North, Alex Buck from Lewisville, TX and Fred Miller from Southlake, TX.
DGN Jim Giffin accepted the traveling cape for the Golden Vampire Challenge with D5810; this challenge between the neighboring Districts have brought 116,845 donations to transfusion patients in North Central Texas. Jim will promote voluntary blood donation throughout his year as Governor and has already scheduled a blood drive in conjunction with his District Conference.
GNBD Director Merlyn Sayers was the featured speaker for the lunchtime event at the District Conference. Speaking on the changing meaning of words, Merlyn praised Rotarians for their outstanding contributions to saving lives through blood donations, polio eradication, clean water and a host of humanitarian projects.
