 - What I think we need is to have the DGs of all districts commit to supporting blood donating in their district and to giving us their approval to contact clubs directly so as to get the message across. Otherwise our message is often not getting past the DG of the day, says Ron Wilson, Rotary Club of Swan Valley, District 9470.Rotary Clubs in the three Western Australian districts compete for the Rotary Tri Districts Blood Challenge Trophy.

Report from Rotarian Ron Wilson, Swan Valley Rotary Club, District 9470, charter member of the Global Network for Blood Donation. Ron is a regular blood donor and reached his 400th blood donation in May 2007.

Rotary clubs across the three Western Australian districts, 9450, 9460 and 9470, compete for the Rotary Tri Districts Blood Challenge Trophy, where the club having the most donations in its name over the three-month period wins the trophy for the next twelve months and is presented with it at the District Conference in front of all the other clubs of that district. This is working and gaining momentum.

- At present I am trying to get Rotarians to take part in an annual Summer Blood Challenge which is run by the Australian Red Cross Blood Service here in Western Australiaand in the Northern Territorywhereby donors donate in the name of an organisation over a period of three months, says Australian Rotarian Ron Wilson in a report to www.ourblooddrive.org.

At the end of the period, the organisation with the most donations in its name wins the challenge andhas its name put on the Challenge Sheild in the main Perth Blood Donor Centre. Theyalso often get a prize donated by an independent company.

- I have now started to try and bring the Northern Territory into a similarchallenge between clubs of the two districts involved, though with somedifficulties. Once I have gotten the Northern Territoryup and going, then I will start on another state ofAustralia, says Ron Wilson. What I think we need is to have the DGs of all districts commit to supporting blood donating in their districts and to giving us their approval to contact clubs directly so as to get the message across. Otherwise our message is often not getting past the DG of the day, says Ron Wilson.
