GNBD has twice participated with an exhibition booth at a RI Convention, in Salt Lake City in 2007 and in Los Angeles in 2008. In Los Angeles we hosted our first breakout session on voluntary blood donation.

THE PURPOSE OF GNBD IS:

  • to develop an international network of Rotarians and Rotaractors, their clubs and districts, families and friends, around the world, who are involved in blood donor projects;
  • to inspire other clubs and districts to join this lifesaving endeavour; and
  • to be a forum where all parties involved may share their experiences.

GNBD was founded in late 2006 and was recogniced by Rotary International in February 2007 as a Rotarian Action Group. Since then, our membership has reached 700 in about 70 countries.

GNBD is registered with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) as a Civil Society Organization (CSO).

GNBD has been added to the official website  (under Links&Contacts Other Partners) of World Blood Donor Day - by name, logo and link.

World Blood Donor Day, June 14, is organized by three major organizations working for voluntary non-remunerated blood donation: the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations and the International Society of Blood Transfusion. These organizations have been joined by the World Health Organization, WHO, which is co-sponsoring the event. Between them, they represent 192 Member States, 181 national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, 50 national voluntary blood donor organizations and blood transfusion specialists throughout the world.

Global Network for Blood Donation, a Rotarian Action Group supports the World Blood Donor Day and we urge our members, their clubs and districts to participate in this yearly event. Click here for the 2009 WBDD announcement.

Visa tips

Rotary International recommends that Rotarians who need a visa to enter the United Kingdom for the 2009 convention apply for one on or after 15 February.

Citizens of countries in the European Economic Area and of several other nations, including Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United States, do not require a visa for entry if they plan to stay in the UK for six months or less and have a valid, government-issued passport or national identity card. Travelers who don't have this documentation must obtain a nonimmigrant visa.

Read more about the UK visa process and RI Convention registration.

Rotarians and other main registrants requiring a visa to attend the convention will automatically receive a letter of invitation from RI in PDF format along with their e-mailed registration confirmation.

Please be aware that RI Registration Services handles all forms on a first-come, first-served basis. If you don't have e-mail, you are encouraged to register early to allow time for processing and postal delivery of the confirmation packet.
